The PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) is an official certificate issued by the Società Dante Alighieri under an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The PLIDA is recognised by the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as a qualification that attests proficiency in Italian as a foreign language on a 6-level scale (from A1 to C2) according to the criteria established by the Common European Framework for Languages.
In addition, the PLIDA B1 level fulfills the requirement recently introduced by the Italian Government to foreigners applying for the Italian Citizenship.
Until 2018, the exams were held at The University of Manchester. From 2019 the exams will be held at the University of Lancaster.
