The Manchester branch of the Societa’ Dante Alighieri (with its headquarters in Rome) is one of many established around the world, concerned with the promotion and propagation of the Italian language and culture abroad. Like many other committees in Europe, it does not have its own premises, but it chooses the most appropriate venue for each event. The Society welcomes anyone, Italian or not, who loves Italy, its culture, language, food, fashion, music etc…
The Manchester branch was established in 1995; since then, it has promoted a host of activities, including interesting Italian cultural evenings offering talks in either Italian or English, about art, archaeology, music, history, politics, the popular traditions of Italy, and current affairs.
After each event, participants are usually encouraged to stay behind and chat for a while, in either language, exchanging views and getting to know each other, perhaps over a glass of Italian wine.
